Our homepage URL is http://www.caama.net/ Welcome to CAAMACAAMA (Community for Action Against Meth Amphetamine) is a community response to the crystal methamphetamine epidemic growing in Sydney as a result of the politicking and inaction of our health organisations.
CAAMA aims to serve as an educational resource for everyone from teachers, publishers, gay venues and businesses to GLBTQIs of all ages and social demographics, and as a lobby group to motivate an appropriate response from funded organisations.
"We believe that everyone has the right to specific, explicit information about the dangers of crystal meth, in order to be able to make an informed choice before they use."
Just
as with other public health threats and preventions, like HIV/AIDS and safe(r)
sex, the GLBTQI community in Sydney needs to be talking about ice. CAAMA has
sought to raise public awareness and has achieved considerable success in this
regard, getting credible recognition in Parliament on October 25, taking the
message to the SBS
Insight programme and SBS Radio World
Views, plus our survey
results were released. Our free download posters
have appeared in various supportive venues. Our list of supporters and Friends
of CAAMA has grown to hugely encouraging proportions. Since CAAMA's
inception, the response by government (at federal level) has been stepped up pledging
$150 million to fighting 'ice' ($80million will go to non-government
organisations).
